Let’s delve into a little more detail, shall we? View Price With one of their latest products off the line, the Crush Pro CR120H, we’re looking at one of the soundest choices you’re likely to find in terms of amplifier heads. They know how to make some of the best contemporary models around, but can also offer up solid-state designs, too. When it comes to Orange amps, their reputation is pretty grand. In contrast, the CR120 sounds great at any volumes from bedroom to Madison Square Dive Bar and beyond.1.8 Conclusion How good is the Crush Pro CR120H from Orange Amps? Turning up the channel volume brings in the rest of the signal which compensates for the high end fizz, and using the volume box in the loop you can lower the output level to bedroom volumes. This will allow you to turn up the channel volume while using the volume box to control the overall output level. You can get one of those $20 volume boxes on ebay or Reverb that are designed to be placed in an amp's FX loop. If anyone doesn't believe me, take your DSL20, set it on the dirt channel, turn up the gain, turn the channel volume to zero, then play. You need to turn it up pretty loud to bring up the rest of the frequencies to compensate for the high end fizz. What happens is that at low volumes, the dirt channel has a lot of high end fizz that bleeds through and makes it sound horrible, thin, fizzy, basically like crap at low volumes. Just want to hear what others think - especially from owners about any issues (good or bad) that may not come through a sound clip. Please excuse the length of this post - thanks to all who actually read through the whole thing! Any and all comments and opinions are very welcomed. My concerns - it the master volume good enough for the bedroom? How much of a step up is this from his Micro Dark. Orange - Seems to get a lot of praise for SS and seems to be a good pedal platform. My concerns - any care/maintenance issues with the tubes? Can he go from bedroom volume to jamming with friends in the garage? DSL20 may not be perfect for the metal he likes, but seems like a good, flexible, entry level amp that he can get a lot out of. Marshall - First tube amp will be good for him to learn and appreciate this part of the hobby. In his room, he prefers using pedals through the clean side of the Fender as opposed to the many available settings on the amp. When playing with his buddies he usually plays the Micro Dark with a Boss SD-1 and/or an MT-2. His favorite music is modern/death metal, but he plays other stuff as well. Right now he has an Orange Micro Dark with a 2x12 (eminance Man-O-War and Governor) and a Fender Champ 50XL. I have listened to both of these a bunch of times on videos, and my son played the Orange a few times at Guitar Center (we used to go almost every weekend before COVID so he could try stuff out). Neither one will be perfect, but at this point in the boy's life (15 years old, been playing for about 18 months) he doesn't need perfect, just looking for the next step for him. I like them both for what there are, and the price is right where I need it to be. Obviously, the reasons (so far) for looking at these two are different, but I want to hear opinions to learn more about these two. I am looking at one of these two amps as a Christmas present for my son. I know this will be an apples to oranges comparrison (got lucky with the pun!), but please bear with me - your opinions are greatly appreciated, and will definitely help me learn.
